Gabby's Haunted House 2 Page 4

Whereas the rest of the house was beautifully painted with very vivid graffiti and adorned with plaques as well as statuettes, the basement was cold, stuffy, dark and infested with undergrowth. It seemed as though Gabby didn’t realize that she had a basement since she would have tended to it.

It was also dead quiet, and Henry took caution as he walked on the wet ground beneath him. It was the place that he had been dying to show his master all the time, but Gabby was doing such a fine job not paying attention to him at all. The decision to move was a bad move but in the end, nobody could blame Gabby since she didn’t know how to read the cues that the cat was giving her.

There were heavy chains hanging from the roof of the basement, adding to the spookiness of the entire place.

Henry didn’t stop to explore since from the look of things; he had already done that in the past couple of days that they had been living in that ghostly mansion. He looked as though he knew wherever he was going and nothing could distract him from going there, not the spookiness, not the unnerving clanking of the chains echoing through the calm and quiet of the basement.

Finally, he got to the corner where there were so much undergrowth and litter and started digging without waiting.

This was another thing that made henry’s behavior strange. Normally, henry was virtually one of the cleanest cats out there. But this time round, he always came home with dirty paws and this made gabby a little bit disturbed about this.

More often than not, she would decide to wash henry’s paws and warn him not to avoid digging, but from the look of things, it seemed as though all these warnings were falling on to deaf ears as henry wasn’t paying any attention at all. Day in day out, henry would disappear and then resurface after a couple of hours with his paws dirty.

At first, gabby thought that it was just the excitement by the cat since he was born in the city and therefore it was difficult for him to adjust. It wasn’t just a big move for gabby but from the look of things, henry was also finding it difficult to adjust. And just like that, gabby decided to look the other way and hope that one day henry was going to get over all of this.

Henry dug for almost a minute, taking short breaks to pull the muddy soil from the hole and going right back in and continuing to dig. And after what seemed like ten minutes of intense digging, his sharp claws started scratching on a dry surface, making a sharp, brittle noise.

  It was a human skull.
